In the 1800s, the Bassett family ran a sawmill in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It wasn't until the early 1900s that the Bassett brothers were inspired to start a furniture company with the lumber from the family business. The furniture industry was beginning to boom and the family sawmill gave them a competitive advantage.
